In 2022, after being asked by SNP Communications’ CEO and Co-Founder, Maureen Taylor, “If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be?” I responded “creating a mental health education curriculum for all.” And after I witnessed our small, hardworking team struggling to care for themselves, I decided to take action and pitch a program back to her, from that very idea she sparked.

We called this program “Self Health.” Self Health spans three key areas: physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Physical Health - The condition of your body, taking into consideration everything from the absence of disease to fitness level.

  • Mental Health - It influences cognition, perception, and behavior. It also determines how an individual handles stress, interpersonal relationships, and decision-making.

  • Emotional Health - Our sense of wellbeing, our ability to cope with life events, and how we acknowledge our own emotions as well as those of others.

I created the initial structure for the program and have been in charge of it ever since, from selecting topics and getting buy-in to coordinating speakers and team members to leading sessions or coffee chats.

In 2022, we focused largely on speaker conversations. Topics included “Curiosity, Comfort Zones & Calendars”, “Disarming Rumination”, “Managing Stress & Emotions”, “Helping Others Through Emotions”, “Building Resilience Through Rest”, “Storytelling for Wellbeing”, “Post-Covid Reflection and Our Innate Human Needs”. In 2023, we surveyed our participants and saw that 80% of people saw an increase in their self health. The biggest hit of the year was our adapted step challenge that focused on movement over maximizing steps. Get your copy of our “Get Moving” dashboard.

In 2024, we adjusted our model to involve more casual connection as people felt more lonely. As a result we’re having more coffee chats. We’re also currently competing in a hobby challenge to help folks make time for hobbies outside of work, connect with eachother in a fun capacity.
